Longer Bio
Verona, Wis. native Bryant Switzky (SWITS-kee) recently found his way back to the Madison area after spending 20 years away in the Twin Cities and Washington, D.C. He also found his way back to writing and performing music. His release, On the Edge of Something (2023), was his first album in more than 20 years. It’s a 14-track collection of soulful, acoustic-driven songs that explore life, love, parenthood, and loss. With clever lyrics, soaring melodies and passionate vocals, his music appeals to fans of Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell, and the Lumineers. Switzky performs regularly around the Madison area.
Switzky has been writing and performing music since he was a kid and released his first solo album in 1997 at age 18. After touring as the guitarist in a Latin band and releasing an EP with that group in 1999, he released his second album of original music in 2001 before heading off to the Twin Cities. After spending a few years trying to make a living as a singer-songwriter, he transitioned to a nine-to-five writing job, first as a newspaper reporter then as a federal government analyst. He started writing songs again in 2018, finding that a decade of writing for a living made him a much better songwriter. Over the years, his songs have earned more than a dozen nods from the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, the Great American Song Contest, the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, the Songdoor International Songwriting Competition, Music City Songstar, and the Minnesota Folk Festival. On the Edge of Something and songs from it were finalists for four Madison Area Music Awards in 2023.
